Research on the spatio-temporal distribution patterns of traffic flow congestion in the airfield areas of large airports
Research on the spatial and temporal distribution pattern of traffic flow congestion on taxiways in the flight area provides a theoretical basis for formulating traffic flow control measures and flight delay mitigation schemes. We first design a congestion quantification model of taxiway traffic flow based on the INRIX index system, taking into account aircraft operating characteristics within the taxiway system. Then,a spatio-temporal characteristic analysis model of taxiway traffic flow congestion is built by employing the spatio-temporal kernel density estimation method. Finally,a simulation model of Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is built to obtain simulation trajectory data and verify the model. Our results indicate the traffic flow congestion in the flight area mainly occurs on liaison ways and their adjacent taxiways,U-shaped areas, and the taxiways near aircraft parking positions.Among these areas, liaison ways experience the most severe congestions in the flight area. The developed model effectively identifies traffic congestions and their spatio-temporal distribution characteristics in the flight areas, allowing airports to optimize their taxiway network layout and operation mode and enhance their operation efficiency in the flight areas.
