Returning to sensibility:A new agenda for media research from a perspective of aesthetics of atmosphere
As a new aesthetic school,"aesthetics of atmosphere"puts forward the appeal of"returning to sensibility",which coincides with the trend of"affective turn"in the field of news and communication.The restoration of aesthetic tra-ditions highlights the importance of human beings as emotional subjects,and the reversal of the tradition of rational and empirical information dissemination highlights the humanistic value of media narrative.These changes demonstrate the positive potential of emotions that were once overshadowed.In the basic characteristics and concepts of the aesthetics of atmosphere,several key dimensions can be distinguished,such as sensibility,spatiality,emotion,and implication,pro-viding a new perspective for media research.From the perspective of space and body,aesthetics of atmosphere and media research are similar,and both emphasize the important role of body presence in emotional interaction.From the aesthetic point of view,the emotional narration of the media has the meaning and function of"atmosphere",and has important value in constructing the"narrative community"driven by emotion.From the perspective of the"atmosphere"category,exploring the media ecology shaped by new technologies from a holistic perspective helps to generate new media produc-tion concepts and practical models,correct the development path of media and communication,and promote the construc-tion of human subjectivity in the media environment.In the overlap and infiltration of media space and real space,hu-mans have gained a new emotional experience,providing diverse technological contexts for the generation of atmosphere.This expands the interpretation scenarios of atmosphere aesthetics,adds important media dimensions to the study of at-mosphere of aesthetics,and reflects the overall characteristics of the current era of deep mediatization.
