A View of the Essence of Vocational Education Based on Social Facts
Vocational education cannot be regarded as the"occupation-oriented education"as its name implies. Because there are so many occupational classifications, all occupations'education and training are not regarded as the vocational education in educational practice. The correct understanding of vocational education must face the actual social facts and can not be confined to the word"vocational education". By combining the status and nature of vocational education in the traditional society and modern society, this paper has connected the development history of vocational education since the founding of the People's Republic of China, especially how to change the process from"technical edu-cation""vocationally technical education"to"vocational education". By comparing with the actual con-notation of general education, this paper clarifies that the essence of vocational education is technical skills education with emphasis on"technology and skill", not on"career".
