From transient infections to fulminant epidemics and common respiratory symptoms to critical conditions that lead to respiratory failure, respiratory infections have consumed excessive medical and social resources. The clinical anti-infective drugs exhibit low specificity, high drug resistance, and significant side effects against pathogenic microorganisms causing respiratory tract infections.Increasing attention has been given to the crucial role of immune regulation in the management of respiratory anti-infection therapy. The endoplasmic reticulum stress pathway plays a crucial role in mediating host immune responses and inflammatory damage. It contributes to the pathogenesis and progression of infectious diseases;on the other hand,it also participates in host immune defense mechanisms. The present study provides a comprehensive review of the existing literature on the association between respiratory tract infections and endoplasmic reticulum stress, aiming to elucidate the pivotal role of endoplasmic reticulum stress in respiratory tract infectious diseases.Furthermore,we explore the potential application of drugs targeting endoplasmic reticulum stress regulation for the treatment of respiratory tract anti-infection.
