"Osher Model"of Elderly Education in American Universities
Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes(OLLIs)are widely established in universities in various states of the United States to provide"university-level"education services for people aged 50 and over. From the perspective of the development process, the Os-her Lifelong Learning Institutes and Networks have gone through stages of preparation and initial establishment, expansion and maturi-ty,as well as the current new stage of development.Based on the analysis of the relevant public documents of the OLLIs,this paper sorts out the panorama of its organizational structure, division of responsibilities, operational mechanism and other aspects, and then explores the characteristics of curriculum practice of OLLIs and the relationship between OLLIs and universities. The research finds that the curriculum setting of OLLIs takes into account both academic and local, its curriculum form is flexible and diverse, and the curricu-lum evaluation promotes quality improvement. The innovative relationship among OLLIs,OLLI Networks and universities not only maintains the consensus within the OLLI Networks, but also enables the individual institute to integrate into the university autonomously and promotes the deepening development of the university's mission and function.Owing to the"Osher Model",the OLLI Network is organically embedded in higher education system of the United States, and the field of higher education has also developed the social dimension of education for the elderly in the United States.
