APPLICATION OF MULTIFUNCTIONAL LANDSCAPE CONCEPT IN SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPE PLANNING
The landscape is the concrete and characteristic creation of the interaction between human societies/culture and the natural environment. The theory of sustainable landscape clearly indicates that the target of landscape ecology protection planning should include the protection and proper exploitation of the land, natural resources, traditional landscape, culture and aesthetics features, which is beneficial to the development of urban habitation into better ecological units. The concept of multifunctional landscape, as a broadened connotation of landscape ecology, emphasizes the understanding of landscape by a systematic point of view with concern of the whole human ecological system. Multifunctional land-scapes effectively bridge the gap between the humanities and natural sciences with a trans-disciplinary research approach to resolve the increasingly serious ecological pressure and culture crisis.
