Does Chinese Culture Need A Turn to External Transcendence?
According to Mr.Huang Yushun, internal transcendence is a feature common to Chinese and Western philosophical traditions;no better than external transcendence, internal transcendence also brings many problems, the solution of which lies in turning to external transcendence. However,Western philosophy has no inherent transcendence;even if we recognize any such internal transcendence,it is so only in the sense of epistemology, not in that of morality or religion.Internal transcendence should not bear too much criticism;external transcendence and internal transcendence are open to each other.Various problems brought by internal transcendence are also occasioned by by external transcendence. Therefore,it is impractical to place the hope of problem solving on external transcendence. From the joint perspectives of the uniqueness of our national culture, the strong foundational role it plays in both state and social formation, and the building of faith in Marxism as the prevailing belief,it is neither realistic nor necessary to rebuild any monotheism.
