A Study on the Two Editions of King Zhengwengong Asking Taibo
King Zhengwengong Asking Taibo in the Tsinghua Bamboo Slips Vol.Ⅵ has two different editions:Text A and Text B,which are generally considered as being out of the hand of a same scribe, which is something unique in all the bamboo slips dating to the State of Chu.This paper analyses, word by word, the differences between the two edi-tions.Among the findings are:they reveal neither apparent territorial differences nor any obvious deviation in terms of frequency;whereas the origins of characters in Text A come from an earlier date and are less easy for corruption,Text B presents not a few instances of simplification in character, together with a large number of wrong graphs.Overall,Text A is preferred. In comparison with the usages of words in comparable classics,Text A is found to be more in tune with the writing habit of the copier, suggesting that Text A might have a version based on firm collation.
