An Exploration into Imagery Narrative and the "Imagery" Novel Paradigm
Jia Pingwa,a cutting figure in contemporary Chinese literary circles, has always been in the avant-garde of Chinese novelistic creation. And always visible in Jia Pingwa's novel writings is a strong awareness of Chinese culture and a sense of stylistic experimentation in Chinese novels. Looking back at Jia Pingwa's novel creation early in the 21st century,we find in the two works Missing the Wolf and Sickness Report a same focus on the employment of overall symbolic techniques to express the deep meanings,or in other words,to explain the metaphysical and or philosophical realms through narrative stories. These two novels endow their themes with metaphysically cultural reflections and meta-narratives through the imagery narrative of human survival crisis and the imagery narrative of "sick society". As well, through the exploration of a new "imagery" novel style paradigm, the author realizes an in-depth thinking on the issues of tradition and modernity in the context of globalization at the beginning of the 21st century.
