Characteristics of Bus Passenger Flow Based on IC Card Data:A Case Study in Beijing
Understanding the characteristics of bus ridership is benefit to efficiently plan and optimize bus network. This paper introduces a public transportation IC data mined-based technology to analyze bus pas-sengers' characteristics. To illustrate the applicability of the proposed methodology, Beijing is selected as case study to conduct spatial and temporal analysis of bus ridership at both macroscopic and mesoscopic level. The correspondence between bus system and urban development is also evaluated for further target-ing the challenges that Beijing Transit is facing. Finally, a couple of suggestions to approach transit sustain-able development for Beijing are proposed after a summary of deficiencies of bus network planning and ca-pacity allocation configuration.
