Highway Transportation Characteristics and Parameters of Container Mainline Ports:a Case Study of Xiamen Port
Highway transportation serves as the primary mode of transportation for container collection and distribution in Chinese ports.Addressing the lack of characterization parameters system and the incon-sistent parameter standards in highway transportation, this paper introduces a framework comprising 12 characterization parameters in three categories:transportation structure, spatial efficiency, and temporal ef-ficiency.Based on the analysis of container highway transportation data of Xiamen Port between 2017 and 2022,the paper examines the influencing factors and representative meaning of each parameter.Through comparative analysis with leading ports in China, the paper highlights Xiamen Port's developmental strengths and weaknesses and provides recommendations for its future strategic development.Xiamen Port is suggested to prioritize to optimize transportation structure, particularly through transitioning from road to maritime transportation. The paper also proposes strategies such as diversifying cargo sources and refin-ing cargo types to broaden the cargo scope and augment volumes, thereby enhancing Xiamen Port's com-petitive position among coastal counterparts.Furthermore,it is advised to foster the development of intelli-gent information dispatch platforms for goods to enhance the spatial and temporal efficiency of highway transportation. Finally, through a case study, the paper demonstrates the application of each characteriza-tion parameter in the demand analysis of port container transportation channels.
