Improvement Method of Turning Traffic at Signalized Intersections Considering Yielding Behaviors
In the process of strengthening the practice of giving way in accordance with the law,the phe-nomenon and misunderstanding of"giving way to traffic increase congestion"have appeared. To analyze this phenomenon and give an optimization method, this paper first analyzes the provisions on giving way in the legal norms and sorts out the various types of giving way demands at signalized intersections from a micro point of view.Secondly, based on the event chain, the optimization method of intersection organiza-tion mode, spatial channelization, and signal control are proposed. Finally, the effectiveness of the optimi-zation method is evaluated by both simulation and real-world measurement. The results show that the key to improving the give-way problem at signalized intersections lies in satisfying the spatial-temporal de-mands of give-way,as well as alleviating observation,decision-making,and action pressure of the turning motorists. The evaluation results show that the optimization method can efficiently alleviate the problems of reduced efficiency, poor sight distance, and high conflict between motorized and motorized and non-mo-torized traffic caused by giving way,and is able to bring marginal benefits, such as traffic civilization en-hancement and traffic management cost reduction.
