[Objective]The aim of this study was to analyse the morphological characteristics of Melophagus ovinus and its epidemiological status in sheep flocks in Zhaosu County,so as to provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control of sheep Melophagus ovinus.[Methods]Sheep Melophagus ovinus samples were collected from 156 sheep in the flocks of Tianshan Township,76th Regiment and 74th Regiment in Zhaosu County,and morphological identification was carried out by using somatoscopic microscope,while descriptive statistical methods were applied to analyse the infection rate of sheep Melophagus ovinus.[Results]The overall infection rate of sheep Melophagus ovinus was 62.8%,with the highest infection rate in Tianshan Township.Morphological analysis confirmed that all collected specimens were sheep Melophagus ovinus.In addition,the study found that sheep Melophagus ovinus infection showed consistency across geographic locations,sheep sex and age groups,indicating the prevalence of sheep lice fly infection.[Conclusion]This study clarified the epidemiological status and morphological characteristics of the sheep Melophagus ovinus in Zhaosu County,which provided important information for the development of effective sheep lice fly prevention and control strategies,and is of great significance for improving the health of sheep and their production efficiency,and reducing economic losses.
