[Objective]The aim is to explore the prevalence of sheep Clostridium perfringens disease in the pastoral areas of Xinjiang.[Methods]More than 150 samples of dead sheep suspected of clostridium infection from the sheep herds in 6 prefecture-level cities and states such as Yili Prefecture,Bozhou, and Bazhou in Xinjiang during the spring and autumn of 2023 were isolated and identified for pathogenic bacteria. The artificial infection test, bacterial identification instrument, and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry(MALDI-TOF MS) were used respectively to conduct pathogenicity testing and bacterial identification.[Results]A total of 16 strains of sheep Clostridium perfringens disease were isolated, and the animal experiment showed that the isolated strains could cause the death of mice, with a mortality rate reaching 80%.[Conclusion]Sheep clostridium perfringens disease occurs from time to time in the pastoral areas of Xinjiang. Doing a good job in immunization and scientific management is effective in controlling sheep clostridial disease.
