Research on the Design for the Renewal of Public Space in the Historical and Cultural District of Beiyuanmen in Xi'an
Beiyuanmen Historical and Cultural District in Xi'an,located in Mingcheng District,is a unique neighborhood with distinctive regional features.It is characterized by its deep historical connotation,abundant Hui ethnic cultural features,and complex spatial layout of streets and alleys.The District embodies the dual challenge of preserving and innovating traditional culture in the context of modern urban development.However,with the rapid development of urbanization,the cultural attributes of the public spaces in the District have gradually weakened,and the issues of functional imbalance have emerged due to the demands for diversified functions.This paper focuses on the renewal of public spaces in Beiyuanmen Historical and Cultural District.Through literature analysis,field investigation,and case studies,combined with community demographic analysis and functional optimization proposals,this paper proposes a systematic renewal design method from several aspects of the protection of historical and regional characteristics,functional integration,and community participation,and so on.It aims to balance the preservation of traditional history and culture and modern needs,to improve the vitality and comprehensive value of public spaces,and to provide feasible suggestions for the sustainable development of Beiyuanmen Historical and Cultural District.
