Original Seed Breeding Study of'Nongke No.5':A Novel Silkworm Variety Resistant to Hemolymphatic Sepsis
'Nongke No.5',a novel quad hybridization silkworm(Bombyx mori)variety exhibiting resistance to hemolymphatic sepsis, has been developed by the Institute of Silkworm and Tea Research at the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences. To comprehensively understand the characteristics of the four parent species of the new variety,we master the breeding techniques for these progenitors and conduct original seed breeding experiments on the'Nongke No.5'.The results indicated that compared to the control original breeds'Qiufeng F'and'Baiyu B',the original breeds of'Nongke No.5'demonstrated the following performance:a longer instar period for'Chunriyi N';higher total cocoon weight, thicker cocoon layers, and a higher cocoon layer rate for'Huaguangjia N'and'Chunriyi N';longer single cocoon filament length and raw silk filament length, with a higher reelability, slightly coarser silk fineness, and a higher cleanliness score for'Qiufeng AN'and'Baiyu AN';all original breeds had a high egg production, despite the rate of quality eggs and practical hatching rate were marginally lower.
