The implementation of multidisciplinary co-management for older hip fracture patients in country-level hospitals;a perspective from China
Hip fractures in the elderly have become a serious public health problem in China. However, the traditional management model is inefficient and needs to be optimized. The multidisciplinary co-management models could reduce delay for surgery, optimize surgical procedures, provide postoperative rehabilitation and bone-protective treatments, and prevent refractures.County-level hospitals are the main force to provide medical services for people living in rural areas. In recent years, the continuously improved scale and medical levels, together with the advanta-ges in the treatment and management of chronic diseases, provide foundation for the development of multidisciplinary co-management models.County-level hospitals need to set up multidisciplinary co-management models according to local conditions for geriatric hip fractures, which would optimize healthcare resources, reduce the burden on the healthcare system, and benefit more patients.
