Research progress of conventional MRI in prognostic assessment of traumatic spinal cord in-juries
Traumatic spinal cord injury(TSCI)is often caused by direct mechanical injury and is a serious disabling disease. In clinical practice, conventional spinal cord MRI is mostly used to evaluate the severity of spinal cord injuries(SCI),but its comprehensive application in TSCI also deserves exploration.MRI can show the changes in different stages of TSCI.In the acute stage of TSCI,MRI can show the extent of spinal cord edema and bleeding;in the subacute stage, with the subsiding of edema and bleeding,MRI indicators may have greater value for injury se-verity diagnosis and outcome prediction;while in the chronic stage,MRI can reveal the atrophy of the spinal cord and brain. This paper reviews the relevant literature in recent years, and explains the signal performance of TSCI on MRI and the value of MRI in assessing neurological deficits and predicting recovery following TSCI,to provide sug-gestions for the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and future research directions of TSCI patients.
