Advances in the use of guided bone regeneration membranes for bone defects
The guided bone regeneration(GBR)technology is a treatment that uses a barrier membrane to achieve bone tissue regeneration. It can rapidly induce bone formation and effectively promote bone regeneration due to the good shielding effect. To repair bone defects in long bones, the selection of the covering material is crucial, and the barrier membrane is the main determinant of the curative efficacy of GBR.The barrier membrane makes a relatively stable space at the bone defect, prevents fibrous tissue growth from embedding the bone defect to cause bone discontinuity, selectively regenerates new bone tissue at the injury site, and then repairs the injured bone tis-sue,thus achieving osseous healing. In this review, the classification of barrier membranes and the research progress of various types of membranes were summarized,to provide reference for the development of an ideal GBR technology for the treatment of bone defects.
