In this work, the diffusing result of the grain boundary diffusion(GBD)Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets had been evaluated applying the energy dispersive X-Ray fluorescence spectroscopy(ED-XRF)technique.It was found that, after comparative analysis, the depth distribution of Tb content can be analyzed by all the three methods:EDS,GD-OES and ED-XRF.Compared to the two other methods,ED-XRF method is considered more suitable to evaluate the diffusing result due to its technique theory and parameter such as the size of the measurement-spot.Most of the Tb distributed in the surface-layer with the depth range of 0 to 200 μm.What's more, the critical Tb content resulting to the drastic enhancement of coercivity is probably much lower than the Tb content in the surface-layer of the GBD magnets.Different characteristics of the Tb-distribution were displayed for the samples with different thickness of diffusion-source layer. In addition,as one of the sample-preparation methods, pickling thinning method is more flexible than some mechanical methods to make the sample for ED-XRF measurement.
