From the perspective of new media, new requirements have been put forward for the professional abilities of college counselors. However, due to the limitations of traditional work concepts and methods, there is a mismatch between the development of college counselors'professional abilities and the current needs of educational management work. Based on this, the article analyzes the difficulties faced by improving the professional abilities of college counselors in the new media era, and explores the feasible paths for improving the professional abilities of college counselors from several aspects such as work awareness, training mechanisms, work methods, career planning, pre job admission, and external incentives.
