With increasing uncertainty in international trade, the intensity of regional trade agreement(RTA)intellectual property protection has an important influence on the export trade among its member states.Using data from the Design of Trade Agreements Database from 2003 to 2020,this study selects 2 927 groups of 165 countries with RTA relationships as research objects to measure the intensity of intellectual property protection of RTAs.A regression model is then constructed to explore the impact of the intensity of RTA intellectual property protection on the stability of export trade. The results reveal that a stronger degree of RTA intellectual property protection is more conducive to improving the stability of export trade between RTA member states.Furthermore, the greater the information mobility between countries and the higher the economic freedom of the importing countries, the stronger the promotion effect of RTA intellectual property rights protection on the stability of export trade is.This affects different types of countries and different export industries.RTA intellectual property protection promotes the stability of bilateral export trade between northern and southern countries. However, the promotion effect between southern and southern countries and northern and northern countries is not significant.RTA intellectual property protection promotes the stable export trade of animal and plant, food, tobacco and alcohol, high and new technology, and clothing and textile industries. These research conclusions are of great significance for conducting trade cooperation among countries, signing RTAs with reasonable intellectual property protection intensity, and maintaining long-term and stable export trade relations.
