Experimental study on boosting braking power of natural gas engine
In order to further improve the auxiliary braking power of a natural gas engine equipped with a compression release retarder to meet the market demand, the working principles of compression re-lease braking and high-power braking were analyzed, and the braking performances of the platform were compared and tested. The results show that compared with the existing compression release braking, the application of high-power braking can increase the braking power of the natural gas engine by more than 30%,and the lifting power at rated speed can reach-25 kW. This study can provide reference for the de-velopment and design of retarder and the selection of appropriate engine braking technology for subse-quent engines, especially natural gas engines with low compression ratio,so as to improve vehicle brak-ing safety.
