When tea was popular in the British Isles and became the"national drink",it also found its way into literati's works and poet's odes.In this paper, the qualitative research software Nvivo12 is used as a tool, and 11 English literary works with different themes are taken as research samples to encode and assign the values of tea culture they refer to.The qualitative data show that the tea culture in English literature is represented by four paradigms:physical culture, institutional culture, behavioral culture and mentality culture. In the combination of literature and tea, physical culture and behavioral culture are in the main position of narrative mode construction.Institutional culture is most obviously dominated by the theme of the story; The mentality culture contains philosophical thinking of the British tea style, which is intertwined with numerous literary works. The data reveals the characteristics of tea language in English literary works, namely the native consciousness mediated by tea,the combination of pronunciation and meaning in tea names,,and the aesthetic endowment of tea imagery.Based on the above-mentioned findings, guided by the theory of functional equivalence translation, three major enlightenments are drawn for the Chinese translation of tea culture in English literary works:Respecting the differences in tea culture;Reasonable translation compensation;Reproducing the poetic aesthetics of tea language.
