The Relationship between Interpersonal Curiosity and Phubbing Behavior in College Students:The Mediation Role of the Fear of Missing Out
Objective:This study explores the relationship between interpersonal curiosity,fear of miss-ing out and phubbing behavior among college students based on the Use and Gratifications Theory and the Information Gap Theory.Methods:A total of 533 college students were investigated using Social Curiosity Scale,Generic Scale of Phubbing and Fear of Missing Out Scale.Results:(1)There were significantly posi-tive correlations between interpersonal curiosity and phubbing behavior(r=0.23,p<0.001),interperson-al curiosity and fear of missing out(r=0.23,p<0.001),fear of missing out and phubbing behavior(r=0.40,p<0.001).(2)Interpersonal curiosity not only had a direct positive predictive effect on fear of phub-bing behavior(β=0.23,p<0.001),but also had an indirect impact on fear of phubbing behavior through fear of missing out.Conclusion:Fear of missing out plays a partial mediating role between interpersonal curiosity and phubbing behavior.
