The Literary Geographical Significance of Tang Xianzu's Poetry Creation in Suichang Period
In the spring of Ming Shenzong's twenty-first year of the Wanli reign (1593),Tang Xianzhuang was transferred from being the assistant county magistrate in Guangdong's Leizhou Peninsula's Xuwen County to the post of county governor in Shuichang.Upon completing his accounting report for the fiscal year 1598 (the spring of the Wuxu year),he submitted a"leave of absence"request to the Minis-try of Personnel to return to his hometown,Linchuan of Jiangxi Province.In the fifth year of Shuichang,Tang Xianzu produced over two hundred poems,essays,and plays,completing the final revisions of"The Purple Hairpin Play"in"The Four Dreams ofLinchuan"and finishing the manuscript for"The Peony Pavil-ion,"and gathering material and extracting ideas for his"Two Other Dreams,""The Nanke Dream"and"The Handan Dream."Tang Xianzu's natural and cultural landscapes in Shuichang,as well as the county's governance policies during his era,deeply influenced his literary creations during this period.Tang's po-etry compositions from Shuichang also elevated the aesthetic taste of the local culture,enriched its cultural content,fostering a harmonious reciprocal journey between the author,his work,and the literary geogra-phy.
