The Tutor System Writing and Its Cultural Implication in Fortress Besieged
The undergraduate tutor system is a self-contained educational system at Sanlu University in Fortress Besieged that draws on advanced western educational systems while forming its own unique sys-tem.The narrative of the tutor system at Sanlu University is just the tip of the iceberg of modern higher education systems,which aims to provide students with tutors that are both knowledgeable and virtuous,with an ultimate goal of creating harmonious and efficient educational environment.Although Fortress Be-sieged does not focus much on it,it calmly showcases the process of the tutor system being improved by figures like Gao Songnian and then hastily concluded.Qian Zhongshu,through the narrative of the tutor system,portrays vivid character images,reveals the absurdity and ridiculousness of blindly following Western learning without considering China's national conditions,satirizes the ugly souls of returnee intel-lectuals represented by Fang Hongjian who are incompetent despite their overseas education,deconstructs the myth of enlightenment modernity,and reveals the cultural implications that life is full of"besieged cit-ies".
