The Contribution of Cross-Regional Government Procurement to the Construction of National Unified Market
The government is a key force in integrating the domestic market and unclogging the internal cycle of the economy. This paper empirically examines the relationship between cross-regional government procurement and the construction of national unified market through the data of listed companies'foreign subsidiaries. It is found that government cross-regional procurement promotes the construction of national unified market by driving enterprises outside the jurisdiction to enter the market where the purchasing government is located. The optimisation of business environment and the lowering of regional market barriers are the two mechanisms which promote the construction of national unified market. In addition, for enterprises with a long duration of government procurement, belonging to the same provincial administrative boundary,non-state-owned,and with a weak government-enterprise connection,cross-regional government procurement has a stronger role in promoting the construction of national unified market. The conclusions of the article provide new references for the promotion role of the government in the construction of national unified market.
