Clinical Study of Periodontal Initial Therapy Combined with Plastic Resection for the Treatment of Epulis
Objective:To investigate the effect of plastic resection on epulis. Methods:Clinical data of 40 patients with epulis were collected and randomly divided into control group and observation group, which were 20 cases in each group,re-spectively.The two groups received complete periodontal basic treatment. The control group received traditional surgery, and the observation group received plastic resection of epulis. The keratinized gingival width and gingival receding were recorded before operation,2 weeks after operation and 6 months after operation. The recurrence of epulis was observed at 6 months and 12 months after operation. Results:The keratinized gingival width of the plastic resection group was significantly higher than that of the traditional surgery group at 2 weeks and 6 months after surgery(P<0.05),and gingival recession was significantly lower than that of the traditional surgery group at 2 weeks and 6 months after surgery(P<0.05).There was no recurrence of epulis in either group at 6 months or 1 year after surgery. Conclusion:For patients with epulis, using plastic resection can pre-serve the epithelium and part of the connective tissue to obtain good root surface coverage early, avoiding gingival receding, and obtaining good functional and aesthetic results.
