Difference and Clinical Significance of Inflammation Level in Patients with Oraland Maxillofacial Space Infection with or Without Diabetes Mellitus
Objective:To compare the differences in levels of C-reactive protein(CRP),interleukin-6(IL-6)and white blood cell count(WBC)in patients with oral and maxillofacial space infection with or without diabetes mellitus and the correlation with wound healing.Methods:104 patients with oral and maxillofacial space infection were selected.47 patients with diabetes mel-litus were selected as the observation group and 57 patients without diabetes mellitus were selected as the control group. The location distribution of the affected space, pathogenic bacteria detection results and the levels of CRP,IL-6 and WBC at admission were compared between the two groups. The wound healing rates of the two groups were compared on the 4th,7th and 14th days after ad-mission.The correlation between CRP,IL-6,WBC and wound healing on day 14 was analyzed. Results:There was no statistical difference in the location distribution of the involved space between the two groups(P>0.05),and the submandibular space,mas-seter space and pterygomaxillary space were the most common in the two groups. There was significant difference in the detection rate of Klebsiella pneumoniae between the two groups(P<0.05),and no difference in other bacteria groups(P>0.05).Klebsiella pneumoniae was the most common in the observation group, and Streptococcus was the most common in the control group.Compared with control group, the CRP,IL-6 and WBC in the observation group were higher at admission(P<0.05).Compared with the con-trol group, the wound healing rate of the observation group was lower on the 4th,7th and 14th days after admission. The levels of CRP,IL-6 and WBC were negatively correlated with the wound healing on the 14th day after admission(P<0.05).Conclusion:Diabetes mellitus can affect the infection flora of patients with oral and maxillofacial space infection, increase the level of inflamma-tory factors, and reduce the rate of wound healing. For patients with oral and maxillofacial space infection with diabetes mellitus,it is necessary to pay close attention to the infection to prevent infection exacerbation.
