The Archival Significance of Liang Qichao's View of Local Chronicles
Liang Qichao was the pioneer of modern Chinese new historiography,as well as the initiator and pioneer of modern Chinese local chronicles theory, with unique insight in Archival science. However, compared to the studies of Liang's new historical thoughts and archival science, the usual researches on his local chronicles is relatively weak.Archives and local chronicles belong to the same origin and have deep origins. As the proposer of the concept of local chronicles science,Liang has conducted extensive research on local chronicles, especially county chronicles, whose attention or praise had been received over a hundred county chronicles.Analyzing these county chronicles,it can be found that they all have distinct characteristics and values, which is quite in line with Liang Qichao's local chronicles ideology. The large number of county gazetteers praised by Liang Qichao as"outstanding among the forest of works"reflect these values and characteristics from different perspectives,as well as Liang's original historical aspirations and archival thought.Because of the homologous symbiotic relationship between local records and archives,it is of special significance to analyze Liang Qichao's view of local records for Archival science research.
