The controversy between Mabillon and Germon,which occurred at the end of the 17th century,actually refers to the problem of how to achieve historical reality through archives.According to the concepts of"continuity principle"and"heterogeneity principle",the evolution of historical reality directed by archives presents different faces in terms of continuity and heterogeneity.In the perspective of historicism,the historical reality pointed to by archives is the"continuous heterogeneity"close to the original appearance of the life world,but in the perspective of historicism-oriented postmodernism,the historical reality falls into the relativism danger of"separating the heterogeneity".The"continuous heterogeneous"historical reality reconstructed based on hermeneutic method not only maintains its continuity by archival text,but also opens to the heterogeneous life world,which ensures the correspondence between the historical reality and the original appearance of the life world based on archival restoration to the maximum extent.It is possible to make the archives the last oasis against postmodernist nihilism.
