Habitat Selection by Black Grouse during Early Winter in Honghuaerji Nature Reserve
To probe into the habitat selection strategies of the Black Grouse( Lyrurus tetrix), a study on habitat selection by the Black Grouse was conducted in Honghuaerji Nature Reserve in mid-October of 2006-2009 by the methods of fixed-spot observation, GPS positioning, plot sampling measurement, factor analysis, chi-square test, and so on. Results show that in early winter, Black Grouse prefer grassland-Scotch pine forests and open grasslands, and the habitats are characterized by low elevation (700-800 m), gentle slope (less than 20°) , middle and lower slope positions, far from village (8-12 km) , more than 2 km away from road, and less than 40 m from forest edge.
