The Current Status of Wetland Protection in the Poyang Lake Region and Its Main Influencing Factors
In the Poyang Lake region, five typical wetland protection areas were selected for study:Poyang Lake National Nature Reserve,Poyang Lake Nanji Wetland National Nature Reserve,Duchang Migratory Bird Provincial Nature Reserve,East Poyang Lake National Wetland Park, and Duchang North Poyang Lake Provincial Wetland Park.A questionnaire survey was conducted targeting managers, technicians, field staff, and other staff involved in the management of these areas. The survey aimed to investigate the current status of resource protection and degradation, problems existing in the wetland pro-tection areas, causes of these problems, solutions to current issues, and suggestions for improvement, achieving a validity rate of 93.64%.Based on the survey data,an analysis was performed on the current status of wetland protection in the Poy-ang Lake region and its main influencing factors. The survey results showed that:(1)The current status of wetland protec-tion in Poyang Lake is relatively ideal, with wetland resources receiving reasonable protection and utilization.Among the respondents,83.50%of staff believe that the diversity of wetland waterbird species has increased or remained unchanged,74.76%believe that the number of wetland waterbirds has increased or remained stable,73.78%believe that the wetland waterbirds have reached or are close to optimal numbers, and 63.11%believe that the breeding capabilities of wetland waterbirds have increased or remained unchanged.(2)Significant differences exist in the status of wetland protection across different protected areas.Among respondents,62.38%believe that there are adverse impacts on wetland protection in the Poyang Lake region, primarily related to ecological tourism, decreasing water levels, wetland pollution, and wetland occupation.Additionally,80.58%of staff noted negative impacts from wetland ecological tourism, with 63.10%indicating that these impacts are serious,33.01%believe that adverse infrastructure construction in wetland protected areas has seri-ous or general impacts,82.52%identified decreasing water levels as one of the issues facing wetland protection, and 53.40%recognized wetland pollution as another significant challenge.(3)The causes of wetland degradation in the Poyang Lake region include inadequate wetland protection legislation,an insufficient intergovernmental linkage mechanism for wet-land protection, and an unreasonable composition of wetland staff.(4)Suggested improvements include enhancing local wetland legislation, establishing effective intergovernmental linkage mechanisms, developing regional talent training mecha-nisms,and implementing related policies.
