Objectives To observe the clinical effect of open intersphincteric groove incision in the ligation of the inter-sphincteric fistula tract(LIFT)procedure for transsphincteric anal fistula. Methods A total of 97 patients with trans-sphincteric anal fistula were randomly divided into an observation group(treated with modified LIFT with open inter-sphincteric groove incision,n=49)and a control group(treated with conventional LIFT with closed intersphincteric groove incision,n=48).The cure rate, operative time, hospital stay, wound healing time, postoperative pain score, and postoperative Wexner incontinence score were compared between the two groups. Results The cure rate was 89.8%(44/49)in the observation group and 72.9%(35/48)in the control group, with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).The operative time and hospital stay were shorter in the observation group than in the control group, with statisti-cally significant differences(P<0.05).There were no statistically significant differences in Visual Analog Scale scores on postoperative day 1 and day 7,wound healing time,or Wexner incontinence score at 6 months postoperatively between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion Maintaining an open intersphincteric groove incision during the LIFT procedure for transsphincteric anal fistula can improve the surgical cure rate and shorten operative time and hospital stay, making it worthy of clinical promotion.
