This paper offers a reply to Mr. Shi's on the Jianshi hominid fossils. Shi argues that the age of the "Jianshi hominid" from the Longgudong Cave at Gaoping in Jianshi County of Hubei Province is 1.1Ma BP-1.4Ma BP based on sedimentation rate analysis of the Gaoping Formation. Research on mammalian fossils, hominid fossils, and sedimentary rate from the Longgudong Cave suggests that the two normal polarity events in the geomagnetic column of the Longgudong Cave should be correlated with, respectively, the Olduvai and Reunion events of the geomagnetic polarity time scale. The "Jianshi hominid" is about 2Ma BP in age. Shi's opinion is of mistakes in concept.
