Discussion on Operation Issues and Optimization Measures of Rapid Cooling System
800 kt·a-1 Ethylene unit in a petrochemical company uses patented technology from the US-based S&W company, operates with a designed annual operating time of 8 000 h.The plant's operational flexibility ranges from 60%to 110%.In this paper, issues in the quench system were discussed, including high dry point of cracked gasoline, frequent leaks in the dilution steam generator, and leaks in the first-stage cooling of the quench water.By employing methods such as data modeling,pressure-pH analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and metallographic analysis, the root causes of these problems were identified.Technical suggestions were presented, such as adjusting the side-stream extraction rate of the quench tower, implementing a pH value advanced process control system, adding a toluene extraction unit for the process water, applying an external boron infiltration process to the outer tube wall, and introducing anodic protection in heat exchangers,in order to enhance the stability and long-term performance of the quench system.
