Structural Properties and Characterization of Mesophase in Thermal Conversion of Modified Coal Tar Pitch
A quartz tube furnace made in the laboratory was used to conduct thermal condensation reaction with medium temperature coal tar pitch(CTP01)and modified pitch(CTP02).The mesophase pitch formed during the thermal conversion of CTP01 and CTP02 was characterized and analyzed by FT-IR,Raman,XRD,TG/DTG and polarizing microscope. The results showed that the mesophase pitch was prepared at reaction temperature of 430℃ and constant temperature of 6 h,and there were aromatic lamellar molecules in CTP02 with regular arrangement and better orientation. After thermal polymerization, the relative molecular weight of CTP02 increased significantly, the substituents on the aromatic ring increased significantly, and the content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons increased; The content of optical anisotropy of mesophase asphalt prepared by CTP01 was low,and it was difficult to form a stable regional structure, mainly small and medium-sized regional mosaic, while the content of optical anisotropy of mesophase asphalt prepared by CTP02 was high, and it was easy to form a wide-area structure.
