Influence of Mass Transfer on Holdup in Mixer Settler
The mixer settler is an important equipment on liquid-liquid extraction, and the holdup of dispersed phase is an important hydraulic parameter in the mixing chamber of the mixer settler. The variation of dispersed phase holdup under mass transfer conditions is an important research direction. In this paper, hydraulic and nitric acid mass transfer experiments on two sets of mixer settler with different scales were conducted.Experimental results on the effects of rotating speed,two-phase flow ratio, and residence time on the holdup of dispersed phases under hydraulic conditions were obtained.Under mass transfer conditions,it was found that the stage efficiency of both sets of mixer settler was greater than 90%.Under the conditions of this study, the mass transfer flux was concentrated in the order of 10-5 to 10-4,and it was difficult for the mass transfer flux to affect the hydraulic performance at this order of magnitude. The above calculation results could explain the fundamental reason why the holdup of dispersed phase did not show significant changes under mass transfer conditions.
