Design of a New Mixed Bioreactor and Evaluation of Its Effect on Simultaneous Removal of Ammonia Nitrogen and Organic Matter From Industrial Wastewater
The effectiveness of a novel swirl mixed bioreactor was evaluated. The novel rotary mixing bioreactor is a multi-module system that can couple multiple biological processes in the same reaction unit to remove nitrogen and carbon compounds from synthetic and industrial wastewater. The results showed that the biodegradation of CODs and ammonia was multi-step,depending on the given environmental conditions of each module. The chemical composition of synthetic wastewater affected the biological processes involved in removal of ammonia nitrogen and CODs from synthetic wastewater by nitrification, heterotrophic activity, denitrification and methanogenesis; In industrial wastewater, ammonia nitrogen and CODs were removed by partial nitrification, heterotrophic activity and denitrification. The new multi-module rotary mixing bioreactor may be a feasible technology to treat complex industrial wastewater.
