Identification of Panax notoginseng Based on the Difference of Stable Isotope Characteristics of Carbon and Nitrogen
To explore the feasibility of using IRMS for the authenticity identification of Panax notoginseng, the characteristics of stable isotopes of carbon and nitrogen of Panax notoginseng and its counterfeits(Curcuma zedoaria, Curcuma longa, Chrysanthemum leaf Sanqi, Bamboo-like Dendrobium, Water Sanqi, Sedum Sanqi) were analyzed. A element analysis-isotope ratio mass spectrometry method was established to measure the isotope ratios of δ13C and δ15N in Panax notoginseng and its counterfeits. Variance analysis showed significant differences in the stable isotope δ13C values between Panax notoginseng and its counterfeits (P<0.05). Cluster analysis indicated that the determination of δ13C,combined with δ15N,could separate Panax notoginseng from the counterfeits. The isotope ratio mass spectrometry method, by measuring and identification the Panax notoginseng power purchased at random, could effectively identify the authenticity of Panax notoginseng. The method developed in this study can be used to trace the truth of Panax notoginseng products, which will provide technical support for ensuring food safety.
