Synthesis and Evaluation of Reversed-Phase Emulsion Polymer Viscosifier for Drilling Fluid
Viscosifier emulsion DVL-1 was prepared by inverse emulsion polymerization with zwitterionic monomers N-methyldiallylpropanesulfonic acid,N,N-dimethylacrylamide,and N-vinylcaprolactam as polymerization monomers and azobisisobutyl amidine hydrochloride(AIBA)as initiator. The effective solid mass fraction of DVL-1 was 33%.DVL-1 was characterized by FTIR,1H NMR,TG-DTA,and its viscosity enhancing properties, high temperature and salt resistance were evaluated. The results showed that the apparent viscosity of mass fraction 1%DVL-1 solution could reach up to 17.4 mPa·s.After hot aging at 180℃ for 16 h,the viscosity retension was as high as 52.9%.By observing the three-dimensional morphology of DVL-1 in solution and the data of Zeta potential, the effective mechanism of polymers was discussed. The temperature resistance of DVL-1 was mainly attributed to the stable main chain and side chain rigid groups. The sensibility of polymers to high valence salt ions decreased,of which due to the existence of zwitterionic structure, the crimp of side chain was thus inhibited and the salt resistance performance was therefor significantly improved.
