Effect of Fly Ash and Sisal Fiber on Physical and Mechanical Properties of Expansive Soil
In order to analyze the effect of fly ash and sisal fiber on the expansion rate and mechanical properties of expansive soil, samples of expansive soil with different composite content of fly ash and sisal fiber were prepared, and tests of free expansion rate, unconfined compression, splitting tensile and direct shear were carried out.The changes of unloaded expansion rate, uniaxial compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, cohesion and internal friction angle with the mixture amount of fly ash and sisal fiber were analyzed. The results showed that, the load-free expansion rate of expansive soil decreased with the increase of the composite content of fly ash and sisal fiber;the addition of fly ash and sisal fiber could significantly improve the compressive, tensile and shear properties of expansive soil;with the increase of fly ash and sisal fiber composite content, the cohesive force and internal friction angle of expansive soil gradually became larger but the increase was relatively smaller;when the total content of fly ash and sisal fiber remained unchanged, with the increase of the proportion of sisal fiber, the cohesion of expansive soil gradually increased and the internal friction angle basically remained unchanged;the optimal composite mass ratio of fly ash and sisal fiber was 30,and the total content of the two in expansive soil after composite should not exceed 12%.
