Synthesis and Application of 4,4'-(1-Phenylethylidene)Bisphenol by HeteropolyAcid Method
11-Tungsten-titanium heteropoly acid was synthesized from sodium tungstate and titanium tetrachloride.4,4'-(1-Phenylethylidene)bisphenol was synthesized by Friedel-Crafts reaction with heteropoly acid as catalyst and 3-mercaptopropionic acid as cocatalyst using acetophenone and phenol as raw materials. The effects of molar ratio of raw material, amount of catalyst, reaction temperature and reaction time on the purity and yield of the product were investigated. The optimum reaction conditions were obtained. The purity of 4,4'-(1-phenylethylidene)bisphenol was 98.85%,and the yield was 87.28%.The product structure was characterized by infrared spectrum. The 4,4'-(1-phenylethylidene)bisphenol type polycarbonate was prepared with trisphosgene method by replacing bisphenol A with synthetic 4,4'-(1-phenylethylidene)bisphenol.The heat resistance of the polycarbonate was obviously improved by measuring its glass transition temperature.
