Modeling for Bubble Plume of CO2 Leakage from Ocean Storage
Carbon capture and storage(CCS)technology is seen as a potentially alternative to reducing the massive CO2 emissions from power plants and steel mills.Carbon dioxide storage is part of CCS,which aims to keep emitted carbon dioxide in geological areas deep under the sea. This leakage of stored carbon dioxide can lead to CO2 bubbles plumes, leading to the lower pH,the partial pressure of carbon dioxide rising and the ocean acidification. In this paper, two types of multiphase flow models(Volume of Fluid-VOF model and Euler model)in the computational fluid dynamic method, were used to describe the dynamic behavior of CO2 bubble plumes caused by CO2 storage leakage in the ocean. The population balance model(PBM)was used to simulate the flow diffusion, coalescence, breakup processes of CO2 bubbles in seawater,so as to calculate the rise velocity and size distribution of CO2 bubbles plume, predicting the process of CO2 leakage in sea storage.
