As a language expression mechanism and means for storytelling,the tone system plays an important role in typical ancient Chinese historical biographies,such as "Records of the Grand Historian","History of the Han Dynasty",and "The Zuo Commentary". In these narrative discourse,dialogues occupy a large space,and some stories are narrated based on dialogues as clues,interspersed with questions and answers between monarchs and subjects. These discourses provide a large amount of corpus for studying the tone system of ancient Chinese historical biographies. The article uses the research methods of systematic analysis and historical comparison to focus on three issues:the definition of parts of speech,the evolution of features,and the re-division of the tone system in ancient Chinese historical biographies.
