Between Qi and Tao:On the Instrumental and Value Rationality of the Application of New Technologies in University Teaching and Learning
The concept of"Tao"in the context of university teaching can be translated into the notion of"Qi".The relationship between the essence of university teaching and teaching means is one of dialectical unity. The two are inextricably linked, progressing in unison and complementing each other. This can be conceptualised as"the integration of Tao and Qi".The current widespread use of new technologies, exemplified by artificial intelligence, has directly or indirectly transformed the traditional means of university teaching, offering numerous advantages and opportunities for the teaching process. However, the widespread adoption of new technologies has also led to a growing technological orientation in university teaching activities. This can be attributed to the expansion of instrumental rationality in the university teaching field. In light of the above,it is essential to strike a balance between the value rationality of teaching and instrumental rationality. It is vital to investigate methods of integrating university teaching and technological means in a manner that preserves essence, optimises the advantages, eliminates the allure of technology and overhauls the evaluation process.
