Tracing the Original Meaning of the Role of the Teacher:Reflection Based on the Evidences in Oakeshott's Learning and Teaching
The rapid development of knowledge production and transmission mechanism represented by intelligence and network communication technology is gradually weakening the absolute trust in teachers.In the eyes of instrumental rationality,the teaching unit dominated by technology is an educational form that creates ultra-high value,efficiency and competitive advantage,resulting in a series of external and exaggerated educational"fakes".The teaching mode under the control of mechanical technology hegemony attempts to replace and surpass the foundation of traditional education.Driven by the trend of technological change,educational organizations and practitioners are forced to give new legitimacy to the original meaning of teacher's role.By explaining and defending the role of teachers,it proves that teachers are still the center of education in the great changes of the times and social environment.Drawing on the theoretical evidence presented in Oakeshott's Learning and Teaching,this article clarifies the origin and ultimate goal of teacher role,its constituent elements and mechanistic characteristics,as well as the logical orientation of teaching positioning from an ontological perspective.The identity of a teacher is to nourish and heal the moral heart of students to build a good life,maintain a careful reflective dialogue with utilitarian benefits and technical privileges,foster a sense of danger in the struggle between tradition and modernity,conservative and progressive,and free themselves from the impulsive desire to chase the trend of the times.
