Based on the cell phone signaling data of Xi'an, the study analyzes the spatial characteristics of employment and residence within the third ring road of Xi'an, constructs a comprehensive employment and resi-dence index system, and analyzes the employment and residence matching relationship of six urban clusters in the study area. The results of the study show that: there are large differences in the job-housing matches among the districts in Xi'an, especially in the Xincheng District, Baqiao District, Lianhu District, and Beilin District, where there is serious two-way duplication of commuting; the north-south direction of the Weiyang-Yanta District con-stitutes the largest cross-district commuting flow, and the traffic pressure carried by the north-south axis is in urgent need of relieving. The results of the study provide a basis for the adjustment of the job-housing relation-ship as well as the improvement of commuting efficiency in Xi'an's third ring urban area.
