THE GARDEN OF FORKING PATHS:THE DESIGN OF THE CHIHOU LANE AT FUZHOU YANTAI HILL
Fuzhou Yantai Hill is an urban revitalization project in a historical area,which that URBANUS has participated in recent years.The URBANUS designs the portion of Chihou Lane area.This paper presents a spatial form described in Jorge Luis Borges'The Garden of Fork-ing Paths,to analyze how to form such a suitable typol-ogy in the limited spatial boundary of Chihou Lane by the bricolage between the new space and historic remains to create an acquaintance community,as well as how to take the advantage of the hilly terrain and organize three-dimensional visitor pathways to break through the flat spatial structure.The summary of these methodologies is to reveal the sustainable power of labyrinth-like spatial forms with self-organizing capabilities spurring vitality of community.
